One of the relevant things of the new Agents within existing products - in this case Dynamics 365 Human Resources, is the chance to extend them. They might be somehow limited for your needs. Luckily we are able to extend these Agents with Copilot Studio. There is a really simple example - but it helps to illustrate the goal of the article.
In the following screens I will guide you on how to extend the existing Copilot in Finance and Operations very simply.
Log into Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, open Copilot and ask a question. This is just a extra-simple test.

Once you get the test done, head into your preferred Power Platform space, I choose Power Apps. Go to Solutions and then search Copilot for Finance and Operations Apps.

Once the solution is open you will see the components. Select the one under Agent.

When selected, Copilot Studio will open directly into the Copilot in Finance and Operations. Select Topics.

Select + Add a topic > From blank.

In the trigger box add a phrase to start the Copilot for this particular case.

After the trigger, add 'Send message' and add some text + a formula. In this case it's DateTimeValue(Now()).

Feel free to test the Copilot in the panel on the right.

Beware that before publishing a 'risk check' is prompted and mitigations need to be addressed. As you can see below there is a risk with the access of the Agent. Let's fix it.

See below the risks. I amended them and now we can continue to Publish.

All good now!

Agent is almost ready.

Let's test it out. As you can see it works!

This one was a real simple case, but what if we want to add something a little bit more relevant? Something beyond just the day or time? We can add a policy into our knowledge sources within Copilot that can be published into D365HR Copilot.
Let's try this:

I added a knowledge source with the Leave and Absence policy.

Knowledge has been added, now is time to test :)

After publishing the agent with the new knowledge source we can ask company-specific questions and get answers to better assess or manage the processes behind Dynamics 365. See some examples below:
Exhibit 1: Vacation days

Exhibit 2: Carryover rules

Exhibit 3: Leave types

Exhibit 4: use-it-or-lose-it policy
